Nasdaq Stock Market Is The Market Of The Future

Nasdaq Stock Market Is The Market Of The Future

By: Mark Crisp

The National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations system (NASDAQ) is a securities market that was started in the US on February 8, 1971. Owned and managed by a company appropriately named The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc., it is the largest digital, on-screen online trading stock market located in the US.

In 1971, NASDAQ became the world's first exclusively electronic trading market for equities, and it now serves millions of people all over the world. NASDAQ has become the United States' most rapidly growing stock market, and the market with the most listings from outside the US. It now leads all American markets in trading volume and in companies listed. The most frequently mentioned index, the NASDAQ Composite, has been published each day for 36 years. The large-cap NASDAQ 100 Index was introduced in 1985, as was the Financial Index covering stocks in that sector.

Dating from the 1st March 07 almost 5100 companies which include small and growing companies and a lot of large corporations as well which became household names, sell their securities using this electronic marketplace. About 2 out of 7 shared traded on the American financial market occurs through this system. For Tape A or NYSE listed security, it is about the 14-15 % of all shared trades. For Tape C ones, it is about 45 to 98 % of the whole trading quote.

NASDAQ Stock Market has a sliding fee system based on how much trading volume the market participant executes on the NASDAQ system. Higher the volume executed on the system, lower is the liquidity removal fees and more favorable is the added-liquidity rebates.

The online trading market operates in a system under which 'Market Makers' compete with each other for the best buying and selling prices. Market Makers provide depth of market to companies by standing ready to commit capital to stocks in which they are registered and by providing immediate and continuous trading in a company's stock. Buyer and sellers are willing to trade more frequently and investors are more willing to hold securities, because they know they can sell them more readily.

The quotes are available at three levels. Level I shows the highest bid and lowest offer - the inside quote. Level II shows all public quotes of market makers together with information of market makers wishing to sell or buy stock and recently executed orders. Level III is used by the market makers and allows them to enter their quotes and execute orders.

National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations system (NASDAQ) is the world's first exclusively electronic trading market for equities. It now leads all American markets in trading volume. Almost 5,100 companies trade their securities on NASDAQ. The nasdaq stock market uses a sliding fee method based on the quantity of trading.

Why Use Offshore Banks?

Why Use Offshore Banks?

By: Frank Vanderlugt

Offshore banks are often talked about in business circles. But what are offshore banks and why should you use one?

The term "offshore banks" originated in the United Kingdom. This was because the Channel Islands (Jersey, Alderney, Guernsey and others. These islands also gave names to breeds of cattle), while being officially part of the UK, had separate tax laws. It didn’t take long for people on the main island of Britain to realise that they could deposit their money in bank accounts based on the Channel Islands and thus have their finances subject to the tax laws of that island.

This is one of the reasons that offshore banks are still popular today. By having funds (wages, earnings, etc) paid directly into offshore banks, this means that the income is "earned" in that country (because that’s where the transaction takes place), and so that income is subject to the tax laws of that country. It’s easy to see that offshore banks in countries with low tax rates will be very popular. These countries are known as tax havens.

Offshore banks are also used during times of political instability. It is well known that during times of political unrest that banks can collapse and that assets may be seized by a rogue government. A case in point here is what happened recently to white farmers in Zimbabwe – the Mugabe government seized their land and drove the owners off it. No recompense, nothing. If you have funds tied up in offshore banks, this won’t happen to you.

Countries that offer secure offshore banks for asset protection during political turmoil are countries that have seen much political stability and safety. This means that the offshore banks in these nations are well and truly safe.

Privacy is another reason why people choose offshore banks. If you don’t want agencies to discover what is in your account (for example, if you suspect that a gold-digger has married your for your money and may divorce you in order to get a large share of it), then an offshore bank that has a culture of discretion and secrecy will keep you safe. The most famous of all the offshore banks when it comes to privacy are the banks in Switzerland.

Recently, there have been some legal questions asked about the possible abuses of offshore banks. Offshore banks can be used for illegal purposes such as money laundering and tax evasion – it is well known that offshore banks are used by organised crime rings. However, the abuse does not abolish the use, as the ancient Romans used to say, so offshore banks remain a smart option for canny investors.

Nations that are popular choices for offshore banks include the following: the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cook Islands in the South Pacific, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Macau, Panama, Mauritius, St Kitts and Nevis, and Monaco. Not only are these locations with favourable tax laws and political stability (important factors for offshore banks), but they also are great places to visit (oh dear – I’ll have to make a visit there to set up my offshore bank account…)

I imagine that, like most things in life, these are negotiable.

• Origin

o Market cap Rs 4000 crores, Stock selection using criteria such as GARP, high ROI, etc.

• Klassic Portfolio - Flexi

o Multi cap portfolio, based on the observation that "present market conditions hints at growth as a central premise to support valuations" - whatever that means.

By the way, the website does not share any performance metrics either, except for this "risk-return profile" chart. This has been true of most of the PMS-es I looked at. Why not? Is it classified, top secret?

PS: They also offer a Mutual Fund PMS (KotakFreedom) with minimum investment of 5 lakhs, that gets you a relationship manager and their mutual fund research. Again, no data on fees, past performance, etc.

Us Stock Market - Good Option To Invest Money In Stocks

Us Stock Market - Good Option To Invest Money In Stocks

By: Mark Crisp

Both the NYSE (or New York Stock Exchange) and NASDAQ (or National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations system) are the exchanges that make up the US stock market, which has been known to fluctuate greatly over the years.

The market capitalization of the New York Stock Exchange is in trillions of dollars and is the highest in the world. Over a hundred and fifty years old, the NYSE has also the largest volume of shares traded in the world measured in dollars. However, if volumes are only considered, the New York Stock Exchange comes in second place, after the NASDAQ.

The US Stock market offers a convenient means by which a common stock holder can trade in stocks, by easily buying and selling them. Such trading is done electronically in both exchanges, and also on the trading floor in the case of the NYSE. Direct trading on the floor of the exchange is restricted to members or "seat" owners. The seats are limited in number and are much sought after. You have to pay a price in order to become a seat owner. Currently the price is around $4 million.

Stock exchange has an index in order to know the general trend of the individual stock price movement. This index is comprised of the prices of significant stocks quoted and traded in the respective exchange. In the US, one can find three major indices - the NASDAQ index, the Dow Jones index and the S&P index. These indices are further sub-divided into various sector indices to help in analysing the performance of various sectors.

Stock exchanges use stock symbols for denoting the stocks. These are essentially short forms of the company names. You can easily look up the history, current quotes and trends of any company from the stock exchange websites if you know the symbol.

The history of the stock markets in the US is both interesting and informative. Among the notable events during its long history, the crash of 1929 is perhaps the most significant one. The black Tuesday of 1929 is considered as the worst day in the history of the US stock market. The largest quantum of selling was completed on that single day. The crash of 1929 eroded more than $100 billion in investors' assets. This would be worth several hundred times more in today's dollar values.

Now a days people, who do not have the expertise to manage their own investments, have several avenues available to invest their spare money. Such avenues are invest stocks and mutual fund organizations. Eventhough these companies manage their investments professionally, one should be aware that all of them are not equally good. One should make their own research before investing through any of these avenues.

The us stock market consists of two exchanges, NYSE and NASDAQ. If you have some spare money that you would like to invest stocks form a good option. In order to denote the stocks, stock exchanges use stock symbols, usually abbreviated forms of the company names.

How to Invest in Mutual Funds

How to Invest in Mutual Funds

By: Gerry Wollert

Mutual Funds are probably the best way to invest in the stock market.

For both the novice and experienced investor, Mutual Funds and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are probably the best investment vehicles to invest in the stock market. There are many reasons that make mutual funds investing so attractive:

• Diversification: Mutual Funds and Exchange Traded Funds hold a portfolio of anywhere from 20 to 200 individual stocks. The multiplicity of holdings shields the entire portfolio from plummeting when bad news hits one particular stock.
• Professional Management: Mutual Fund companies employ highly experienced professional managers to manage their individual mutual funds. These managers get to know all of the companies in their portfolio. They have tremendous computer and support resources at their disposal. Few individual investors have that level of sophistication.
• Economies of Scale: Mutual funds are able to take advantage of their economies of scale to reduce the transaction costs associated with buying and selling. This translates to a savings for those investors involved in mutual funds investing.
• Divisibility: Someone who only as $1,000 to $5,000 to invest cannot begin to purchase a sufficient number of individual stocks to get sufficient diversification. With No-Load Mutual Funds, there are no commissions to pay and an investor can get started investing with as little as $1,000.
• How to get started: Investors can invest in a mutual fund directly with the Mutual Fund Family. However, it is far better to purchase mutual funds from a discount brokerage firm that handles many different families of mutual funds. (T.D. Ameritrade, Charles Schwab, and Scottrade, are three good alternatives.) This enables the investor to trade or upgrade their mutual fund holdings between various mutual fund families by placing the order with their discount broker. Mutual Fund or ETF Trading can be done online with a very user friendly trading platform.
• Rebound Mutual Fund Trader: This is a robust trading system that consistently outperforms the S&P 500. In fact, subscribers to this mutual fund trading system recently doubled their money in just 32 months. When fully invested, the Rebound Mutual Fund Trader holds 7 No-Load Mutual Funds or Exchange Traded Funds. The average holding time is currently running about 97 days. This system only trades about twice per month and takes less than 30 minutes per month to perform the mutual funds trading. This mutual fund trading system is currently generating an annualized rate of return nearly triple that of the broader market indices. To get started on your way to doubling your money in the next 3 years by investing in Mutual Funds.
